Trends in the Contemporary Muslim World: Nationalism and Religion in Turkey and Indonesia

Time : 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Description : Ibrahim M. Abu-Rabi will focus on the emergence of the nationalist/secularist nation-state in Turkey and Indonesia, and its position vis-a-vis religion and religious communities in both countries. He will also highlight the responses of contemporary Muslim intellectuals in those two countries to the nation-state and secularism. Ibrahim M. Abu-Rabi was recently appointed to the Islamic Chair at the University of Alberta. He was Co-Director of the Macdonald Centre for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations, Hartford Seminary. He is a research fellow of the Chester Ronning Centre.

Description : This program is open to older adults who wish to come to the mall to walk for leisure or physical activity. Membership is free and operates as a drop in program, meaning you can start and finish at your leisure. You are encouraged to record your distances with our mall walking volunteers so you can receive incentive rewards provided by the mall merchants. You are also invited to attend our Healthy Living Seminars and/or Fitness Evaluations that are scheduled throughout the year.

Living With Stroke

Description : Are you a stroke survivor? You and a caregiver may benefit from this 8-week program. We will use videos and informal discussions to share and gather ideas about dealing with the effects of stroke. Eight separate topics will be discussed in a group format. This group is led by a Living With Stroke facilitator and is a program of the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Once you register, a health professional will contact you to provide you with more information and to determine if you meet the criteria to attend.
