Human Rights and the Global Search for Peace

Description : The Honourable Doug Roche, Order of Canada, will be in Camrose on Monday evening, October 27, speaking on Human Rights and the Global Search for Peace. Mr. Roche is an author of 19 books, a parliamentarian and a diplomat, who has specialized throughout his 35-year public career in peace and human security issues. In his most recent book, Creative Dissent: A Politicians Struggle for Peace, Mr. Roche reflects on his lifes work. He writes in his website: "There are lessons here: about politics and the perils awaiting public figures, about bringing spiritual values to the public square, about never succumbing to the cynics."The Honourable Mr. Roche's presentation is free to the public, and no registration is required.

What Happened to the Southern Baptists?

Description : The Southern Baptist Convention was founded in 1845. In the 1920s and 30s it condemned recourse to war and offered biblical justification for racial discrimination. By the 1970s it was involved in better opportunities and justice in the courts for Blacks. By the 1990s it expressed full support for militarism and the U.S.-initiated Persian Gulf War. What effected these changes of attitude and policy?John G. Bruneau recently retired as Dean and CEO of Gardner College, Camrose, where he taught for nine years. Prior to this he was pastor of First Baptist Church in Camrose. He has a strong interest in the public nature of Christian ethics.

One Stroke Painting
