Somerset Maughm's Rain, an adaptation by Paul "Sparky" Johnson - Augustana's Winter Drama Production

Time : 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Description : This event occurs on the 11 thru 13th as well. Augustana Drama is proud to present the world premiere of Somerset Maugham's Rain an adaptation by Paul "Sparky" Johnson. The short story takes place on the island of Pago-Pago in the early 20th century. Circumstances, an outbreak of measles, have caused the ship carrying two unlikely couples to their South Pacific postings to holdover on the rainy Samoan island. One couple two missionaries returning from furlough, the other a medical doctor and his wife, not associated with any faith group and are coming to the region for the first time. Occupying the downstairs quarters of their temporary housing is a woman of ill-repute. The constant rain works as a metaphor to the situation either viewed as the eradication of sin through the showers of grace, or the oppressive flood of religious fundamentalism drowning out all compassion and human respect.
