Relay for Life

Join Relay for Life for a night of celebration, reunion style! It's Relay Time and we want to see you there!

Plan to be a part of the 5th anniversary of Relay For Life - a 12-hour, overnight, non-competitive event that involves teams who take turns running or walking around a track. being held on June 15th & 16th, 2007 at the Camrose Composite High School. This year’s event is proudly sponsored by Central Agencies Inc. in Camrose.

“There are lots of ways to get involved this year,”
says Colleen Lindholm, Relay For Life Coordinator. “You can either grab your friends, family, co-workers, boss, neighbors, sports buddies and form a team, or come and experience the celebration as an event volunteer.”

There are volunteer oppor-tunities for all age groups – everything from helping with site set-up, putting out the luminaries, running games and activities, team registration, making coffee to helping out with the big job of site take down the next morning.
You can also volunteer with a group of friends or family.

If someone is unable to attend the event but would still like to be a part of it, they can purchase a luminary in memory or tribute of someone they know who has gone through the cancer journey. Luminaries are special candles in a bags with messages that are placed around the track.  Lit during a moving ceremony at dusk, the luminaries provide light and inspiration for participants throughout the night. Purchase a luminary for $5 at either the Camrose/Wetaskiwin Scotiabank branches or by on-line at www/cancer.ca/relay.

“We hope to raise more than $300,000 this year,” says Lindholm. “While the money raised is important for cancer research and support services, Relay For Life is also a great opportunity to get together to remember loved ones and celebrate our survivors.”

All cancer survivors, whether you have been recently diagnosed or been cancer free for 50 years are not only invited but encouraged to register for the Survivor Victory Lap. This is a celebration of life and an opportunity to provide HOPE to those going through a cancer journey.
In 2006 in Camrose, over 225 survivors celebrated together as their sea of yellow shirts made their way around the track to officially start the Relay festivities – and the committee is hoping for even more in 2007!

Whether you are from Camrose, Wetaskiwin or a surrounding community, this is YOUR invitation to get involved! Be a part of making cancer history! We look forward to seeing you on June 15th!
